Violations Of Brotherly Love

In Galatians 5:19-21, the Bible reads, “Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

What is meant by violations of brotherly love?  Violations of brotherly love is the breaking of the 2nd Greatest commandment, which is to love our neighbor as ourselves (Leviticus 19:17-19 & Matthew 22:34-40).  Violations of brotherly love will keep us out of Heaven.

Enmity – Hatred; Hostility; the attitude towards one’s fellowman that treats him as an enemy (1 John 2:9, 1 John 3:15, & 1 John 4:20).

Strife – Variance, contention, discord, quarrel, wrangling (Romans 2:8-9 & Titus 3:9).

Jealousy – An envious & contentious rivalry; emulations.  It moves one to bitter & envious resentment.  It’s that unfriendly feeling excited by another’s possession of good (Proverbs 6:34).

Fits of Anger – Passion, angry heat, anger forthwith boiling up & soon subsiding again; angry outburst in word &/or deed; wrath (Romans 12:19, Ephesians 4:26-27, Ephesians 4:31-32, Ephesians 6:4, & James 1:19-20).

Rivalries – Selfish ambition; strife (Romans 13:13, 1 Corinthians 3:3, & Philippians 2:3).

Dissensions – Disunity; seditions (Romans 16:17 & 1 Corinthians 1:10).

Divisions – The rally of a group of people around one particular belief to form a party; heresies (2 Peter 2:1 & Titus 3:10-11).

Envy – Ill-will, malice, wishing bad & the worst in others doing well.  This includes: Undermining the influence of those prospering & attacking persons because they have prospered in some way (1 Timothy 6:3-5 & James 3:14-16).

If we are engaged in any of these things, then listen to your Bible in Acts 3:19, where the Bible reads, “Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out.”  Not only are we to repent of these things, but in Galatians 5:21, it says “& things like these”, which means anything similar to these things listed.  The Bible is clear.  “Those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God!
