Our Fall Gospel Meeting With Joe Works

On October 23rd-26th, we were blessed & spiritually enriched to have Joe Works of Fairlawn, New Jersey deliver a set of lessons on the book of Leviticus.  Joe made the purpose clear at the beginning of every lesson, as well as throughout the lessons presented each day: 1) this book is about how to come into the presence of God, 2) the most emphasized characteristic of God, which is His holiness, is talked about most in the book (Leviticus) we study the least, & 3) always look for repetitive words/phrases.  This series was filled with a lot of rich information, so I will only highlight a few in this article:

  • Thursday Evening (Be Holy) – Attendance 90 - Holy means Sanctify; Sacred; Set Apart.  We must be separate in our thoughts, dress, words, & company.
  • Friday Evening (Come Into His Presence) – Attendance 107 - The book of Leviticus was not just for the Levites, but for all the children of Israel.  Why did the children of Israel offer sacrifices to God?  1) So they may come into His presence, 2) To show they were loyally dedicated to the covenant, 3) to celebrate being at peace with God, 4) to appeal to Him for forgiveness, & 5) to make confession & find forgiveness.
  • Saturday Evening (Glorify Thy Name) – Attendance 100 - We glorify God by doing what the LORD has commanded.
  • Sunday Morning Bible Study (God With Us) – Attendance 121 - This was a study of the Tabernacle.  Each of these items were a shadow all pointing to the body, which is Christ.
  • Sunday Morning Worship (Second Greatest Commandment) – Attendance 177 - Love your neighbor as yourself.  A failure to fulfill this commandment is to profane the name of God.  The book of Leviticus is the first book the Jews used to teach their children.
  • Sunday Afternoon Worship (A Letter To The Gentiles) – Attendance 127 - We must take God’s word seriously.  We must not walk like the Gentiles.  God will destroy a city if enough are wicked, but God will spare a city if enough are righteous.  Freedom means responsibility.

During last year’s fall gospel meeting our average attendance was 101 with our highest attendance being 136.  This year, our average attendance was 120 with our highest attendance being 177.  We averaged 19 more than last year & 41 more than our highest.  We also had a baptism on Friday evening!  Brethren, thank you for making this meeting a success & keep up the good work!
